The Sacrament of Confirmation
All-powerful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, by water and the Holy Spirit you freed your sons and daughters from sin and gave them new life. Send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their helper and guide. Give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of right judgement and courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence. Fill them with the spirit of wonder and awe in your presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
- from the Rite of Confirmation
The sacrament of Confirmation, symbolized by the laying of hands and the anointing with Sacred Chrism, gives an increase of the Holy Spirit first received at Baptism, configures us more firmly to Christ, and unites us more perfectly to the Church.
The sacrament of Confirmation is usually conferred by the bishop or his delegate during the sophomore year of high school following two years of religious education. Classes for confirmation are held concurrent with Total Parish Catechesis on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., September through May.
