The Sacrament of Reconciliation
God the Father of mercies, through the death and resurrection of his Son, has reconciled the world to himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins. Through the ministry of the Church may God grant you pardon and peace. And I absolve you of your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
- from the Rite of Reconciliation
The sacrament of Reconiliation, also known as Confession or Penance, allows us to confess our sins, to receive God's forgiveness, and be reconciled to God and the Church.
Reconciliation requires the recognition and sorrow for our sin, a prayer of contrition, the counsel and giving of a penance by the priest, the prayer of absolution, and an act of thanksgiving.
The sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated every Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Maria Lanakila or by appointment. Communal celebrations are also scheduled in Advent and Lent.
First Reconciliation is usually received at age 8 following two years of religious education and prior to receiving First Communion. A preparation retreat is scheduled each year prior to the celebration of First Reconciliation during the season of Lent.
